Dover Castle - Turning point in history Dec 15, 2016
You know how it is, sunny winters day, why not explore our country. I've taken the car ferry several times from Dover and often wondered about the castle- surely just another relic medieval England?
Much much more than that, it commanded the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940, saving over 300 000 lives a turning point in the Second World War. A vivid audio visual presentation highlights the speed of events and how the inspired leadership of operation Dynamo from secret tunnels beneath the castle saved a desperate situation.
A nuclear Armageddon nearly brought about by the Cuban missile crisis had a government office prepared in even deeper tunnels.
For me it ponders the philosophical question of how we got here and to be grateful to our forebears
