The new East Germany now much renewed following years under communist rule still feels different to Western Germany.  Still very much a cultural hub with Goethe’s home and many other museums in Weimar, tour Leipzig with its famous Gewandthaus orchestra, the home of Johann Sebastian Bach also elegant Dresden sympathetically restored after near destruction during the Second World war. There are fascinating Colditz tours, a POW prison in a castle for British officers and the escape attempts they made!.  You can also tour the BMW factory near Leipzig designed by the late Zaha Hadid, and watch the whole production cycle.
