Description

The Orient Express has an aura of mystique and intrigue, featured in Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, not to mention the James Bond film ‘From Russia with Love’  But more than literary and movie associations, our Orient Express holidays by train are an evolving travel experience from the high speed train and modern Austrian sleeper to  stately Vienna gateway to the Balkans. Now the train is at a gentler pace allowing time to absorb dramatic Transylvanian mountains home to Dracula’s castle at Bran and the historic Saxon town of Brasov nearby, still hardly visited by tourists.  Further into Bulgaria, you could spend a day at Veliko Tarnavo, the historic capital, full of historic monuments celebrating the struggle for independence, very much off the beaten track!

Of course the highlight is Istanbul, the magnificent Hagia Sofia, once the Byzantine cathedral, the Blue Mosque, also visit the Topkapi Palace home of the Ottoman Sultans.  Look out too for Egyptian obelisks and the Roman era Hippodrome – This is really a lifetime adventure!

Book with Traintours4u and you will enjoy an included cruise along the Bosphorus and marvel at Istanbul’s skyline – this excursion includes a visit to the Egyptian spice market so hone up your haggling skills!
