  • Day 1-3 Begin your rail holiday by an early afternoon train to Paris, to connect with your overnight sleeper train to Milan changing to a high speed day train to Rome. Stay at the beautiful boutique 4* Baileys hotel close to the Via Veneto or 3* Corot hotel a few minutes from the rail station. After checking in why not walk to Venice Square and admire the monument to Emanuel II. Close by is the Roman Forum and the magnificent Coliseum. Spend at day visiting the iconic St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican moving on later to the Trevi Fountain made famous by the film ‘La Dolce Vita’. In the evening visit Trastevere for a typical leisurely dinner in the celebrated restaurant area.
  • Day 4-5 After a leisurely breakfast take the high speed train to magnificent Florence, a compact city and mostly traffic free. Stay at the lovely modern 4* Embassy hotel or the 3* Cimabue both centrally situated. The renaissance centre is dominated by the Duomo, nearby is the famous Ponte Vecchio lined with wonderfully tiny jewellers shops and the Uffizi Gallery, home of Italy’s most celebrated artworks. Finally do not miss the celebrated statue of David by Michelangelo at the Accademia museum
  • Day 6 Take your high speed train to Venice, arriving at the marble fronted Santa Lucia station next to the Grand canal. Take the waterbus to the 4* Rialto hotel next to the famous bridge or the quietly situated 3* Hotel La Forcola.
  • Day 7 Visit the famous St Mark’s Square, the Doges Palace and the Campanile, dramatically approached on the Waterbus from Venice Lido, ideal to stay in for its marvellous beach yet only 40 minutes from the city
  • Day 8-9 Why not hire a Gondola for an hour, an extravagance but this is Venice! Your rail holiday to Italy finishes with an evening departure on the overnight ‘Thello’ train to Paris with London connection arriving back in London St Pancras at around 12 noon next day.
